Why I created High Performance Founders

High Performance Founders was born in the Rocky Mountains of Canada—somewhere between exhaustion and exhilaration.

I was deep into my first ultra-endurance event, 29029—an endurance challenge where participants hike the equivalent elevation of Everest (29,029 feet) by ascending the same mountain repeatedly over 36 hours.

Step by step, ascent after ascent, something clicked:  entrepreneurship is endurance.

But it wasn’t a new idea. It was the naming of something I’d been living.

Because before the Rockies, before 29029, I experienced burnout.

My actions were out of sync with what I knew about performance. That misalignment nearly broke me.

Burnout doesn’t arrive with fireworks.
It creeps in quietly.
Starting work at 7am, 6am, 5am. A missed meal here. A blurry boundary there. A brain that won’t switch off. A body that keeps going—until it doesn’t.

At the start of 2022, that’s where I found myself.
Exhausted but still pushing.
Driven but drained. Leading, building, raising—until I hit a wall I couldn’t work my way over.

So I started walking.
Every day. Out the door. One foot in front of the other.
No podcasts, no audiobooks, no music.
Just me, my breath, and the next step in front of me.

Once you’ve felt the cost of pushing too hard—you don’t forget it.  And that’s why I take high performance seriously.

In the rhythms of endurance, I found a new lens for entrepreneurship.

Hiking in nature helped me recover from burnout—and through it, I discovered endurance.

I realised that the same principles that allow ultra-athletes to push beyond their limits apply to high performing founders too.

The type of principles that reveal just how deeply connected our energy is to our performance - and how easily we ignore it when we’re building something we care about.

In endurance, I found a new lens for entrepreneurship.

One that helps me navigate the pressure, uncertainty, and emotional load of what we so often call a ‘rollercoaster' ride’ but which every founder knows can feel more like a force 12 storm at sea.

High performance is what WE do between the highs and the lows.

Everything I share on this site—through my newsletter, blog, and mastermind programme—draws from my lived experience as an entrepreneur, leadership coach, and amateur endurance athlete.

I’m curious, committed, and constantly learning—blending theory and practice from the worlds of endurance, behavioural science, and performance psychology.

I believe that the ability to manage energy, sustain focus, and build resilience isn’t just for athletes—it’s what sets apart high performing entrepreneurs too.

Ready to think, act and perform at your best?

My first step into the world of endurance was a few years ago when I cycled over 1,000kms across New Zealand. Since 29029 in 2022, I’ve pushed my own endurance further—hiking Rim to Rim in the Grand Canyon in 2024, completing the Virtual Spine Race (175km) in 2025, and tackling ultra-marathons across the Lake District.

Am I done? No. Am I still learning? Absolutely. And I want to share this learning journey with ambitious founders who, like me, believe that how we develop ourselves determines how we lead.

If you’re ready to think, act, and perform at your best—not just for a moment, but for the long haul—then you’ve found a place I hope inspires you and causes you to think and act as a high performer.
